So what is the Village Invasion?
Since 2010, the quaint village of Saugerties, New York has been experiencing an annual zombie takeover of epic proportions. The largest zombie event of its kind in the Northeastern United States, the Village Invasion is part horror film reenactment, part pub crawl, part community celebration. At the behest of event founder and director Captain Cruella, zombie enthusiasts from far and wide converge on Saugerties on a Saturday night in October, dressing in their ghoulish best to sample local shops, take in some kick-ass music, scare each other silly and have a bloody good time.
What’s different this year?
The Invasion has officially incorporated and we’re dragging on to our 4th year! We’re now a not-for-profit organization, and this year, like last, a portion of the proceeds for the event will be directed toward rebuilding and revamping Small World Playground, a local spot frequented by kids from the Boys & Girls Club and other tykes in the surrounding vicinity. In short, it’s caring through sharing, folks, and what red-blooded horror fan wouldn’t want to be a part of that?
Also this year, the Invasion is being built on a ” Carnival of the Dead” theme—this means that visitors have the option of joining in on all the creeptastic circusy, carnival, carnie-esque undead fun! Why? Because living clowns weren’t creepy enough…
The braaaaaiiiinnsss behind the operation, the deadly and delectable Cruella has become a social media phenomenon in a very short time. Building the Village Invasion concept from grassroots level to an officially sponsored destination/event , she’s been featured in the Saugerties Times, Ulster County Times, Times Herlad Record, Poughkeepsie Journal, CT Post, Rue Morgue, Fangoria, countless horror websites, blogs and podcasts along with many other local media outlets, and has a rabid fan following that keeps spreading like an undead plague.
The rotting face of the Village Invasion, Captain Cruella can be found all over the World Weird Web:
The other half the Terror Team, and founder of the award-winning blog The Vault of Horror, Brian Solomon is Minion #1, joining Cruella each year to spread the word and rule over the zombie hordes with a black-gloved fist. His musings on the vast world of horror in its many forms can be found at:

NEAL “CHIP” SMOLLER
The good Captain has an official sponsor this time–the Village Apothecary, located right in downtown Saugerties. It’s owned and operated by Neil “Chip” Smoller, has swooped in taking the Invasion quite literally to higher levels, with radio spots, multi-tasking behind the scenes magic, and much more in the works.
The newly minted Invasion board of directors also includes one Perri Naccarato, who has become known by Invasion partygoers for the vintage horror flicks he projects on the massive wall outside his store, The Computer Guys. And will be soon gracing the front of the very collectible Village Invasion event t-shirts being minted for this 4th annual event!
